Summary
AI Auto Crop is temporarily unavailable in Alphana.
We know this is frustrating, especially if you rely on Auto to keep speakers framed correctly when exporting clips. We want to be upfront about what’s happening and make sure you can keep working without disruption.
While Auto is unavailable, you can still process videos in Alphana and export clean clips by switching your export mode to Fit or Fill. Below, we’ll walk through what’s affected, what still works, and the best workaround if you need reframing for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts.
What’s affected
AI Auto Crop (Auto) reframing when exporting video clips
What still works
Processing your videos in Alphana as normal (templates, clips, and content)
Downloading clips using Fit or Fill
Exporting clips in the original aspect ratio (ex: 16:9)
Disabling captions on export
Important: Auto may be selected by default
If you try to download a clip while Auto is selected, it may fail.
Before downloading, switch the export option from Auto to Fit or Fill.
Workarounds
Option 1: Use Fit or Fill when downloading clips
When exporting a clip, choose one of these modes:
Fit
Use this if you want the full frame visible. Black bars may appear, but nothing important gets cut off.
Fit is usually best for:
Multiple speakers where the active speaker changes often
Screen share videos (so the screen stays readable and doesn’t get cropped)
Any clip where you cannot risk cutting off important content
Extra benefit of Fit
Those black bars are not always a bad thing. On platforms like Instagram and TikTok, the extra space can give you room to add on-screen text, titles, or callouts inside the app without covering the speaker or the screen.
Fill
Use this when there is one main speaker who stays centered throughout the clip. The video will zoom to fill the frame, which may crop the edges.
Tip
If you are unsure, pick Fit first. It is the safest option.
Option 2: Best workaround if you still need reframing (Alphana + CapCut)
If you still need speaker reframing similar to AI Auto Crop, here’s the recommended workflow using Alphana to find the best moments, then CapCut to reframe and caption.
Step 1: Process your video in Alphana normally
Use Alphana to generate clips and identify your best moments, just like you always do.
Step 2: Export the clips in the original aspect ratio
When downloading a clip, set:
Aspect ratio: match your source video (example: 16:9 if your original video is 16:9)
Mode: Fit (or Fill, if it’s one centered speaker)
Captions: Off
This gives you a clean clip with no burned-in captions.
Step 3: Reframe and add captions in CapCut
Import the exported clip into CapCut and:
Reframe it to 9:16 (or 1:1)
Add captions in CapCut
Export the final version for Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts
This keeps Alphana as the “clip finder” and CapCut as the “final formatting” step until AI Auto Crop returns.
We’re working on a replacement
We’re actively working on a new solution, but we don’t have an ETA yet. We’ll update this article and the in-product message as soon as we have a concrete timeline.
FAQ
Why is AI Auto Crop unavailable?
We relied on a third-party video service that is discontinuing this feature, so we had to turn off AI Auto Crop.
Is this permanent?
No. We plan to bring AI Auto Crop back, but we can’t share a timeline yet.
Will my existing projects break?
No. Existing projects and clips are not affected. This only impacts AI Auto Crop reframing during export.
What should I use instead of Auto right now?
Use Fit if you want to avoid cutting anything off. Use Fill if there is one speaker who stays centered.
What should I use for screen share videos?
Use Fit. It keeps the full screen readable and avoids cropping important content.
Why should I turn captions off before exporting?
If you plan to finish the clip in CapCut, it’s best to export a clean clip and add captions in CapCut. This avoids double captions and gives you more styling control.
Where can I learn how AI Auto Crop works (when it returns)?
I need help. What should I do?
Use the in-app support chat and mention AI Auto Crop unavailable. We’ll point you to the best workaround for your setup.
