Alphana will shut down on May 9, 2026. This article covers what happens next, what you get on Visuals based on how you purchased, and the steps to take before the shutdown date. Find your customer type below, or start with the key dates and action items at the top.
Key Dates
April 10, 2026: Alphana sunset announced
May 8, 2026: Lifetime credits added to Visuals account for Lifetime Customers
May 9, 2026: Alphana platform shuts down
July 8, 2026: Deadline to claim your transition offer on Visuals
What to do right now
Download any Alphana content you want to keep (videos, transcripts, clips, generated files) before May 9, 2026.
If you're on a Stripe monthly or annual subscription, cancel it through your Alphana account settings — or message us in the in-app support chat to transfer your subscription to Visuals.
AppSumo lifetime customers: your lifetime access and monthly credits at your tier are already in your account as of May 8. Just sign in at visuals.fm using the same email you used on Alphana. If you signed up earlier and didn't see credits before, log in again now — they're there. Confirmation emails went out the same day.
Stripe subscribers: watch for a coupon code by email for one free month on Visuals.
One-time credit pack purchasers: reach out through in-app support chat with a screenshot of your remaining balance.
How to save your Alphana content
Easiest path: Use the bulk export. Go to Settings → My Data and click
Export All My Data. You'll get a ZIP with one folder per project, containing transcripts, AI-generated content, and rendered clips. For most people, this handles the majority of what's worth saving.
Source uploads (original video files) and custom prompts are not included in the export. If you have any of those you want to keep, see the step-by-step backup guide below.
Step-by-step backup guide
The best approach is to do this in three steps, in order. Each one covers what the previous didn't.
Step 1: Use the bulk export.
Go to Settings → My Data and click Export All My Data. You'll get a ZIP with one folder per project, containing transcripts, AI-generated content, and rendered clips (the short clips you've already exported).
If you don't have source uploads or custom prompts to keep, you're done after this step.
Step 2: For source uploads and prompts, use a desktop agent.
The fastest way we've found to grab original videos and custom prompts is a desktop AI agent. We had the best results with Codex (OpenAI's desktop agent), which was able to access Alphana's API directly through the browser session.
Workflow:
Open Codex (or another desktop agent that can control your browser).
Log in to Alphana in Chrome and keep the tab open.
Send Codex a prompt like: "Help me back up the original video uploads and custom prompts from all my projects in Alphana. Save videos to a folder and prompts to MD files."
Approve permissions as Codex requests them.
Let it run, approving each step until it finishes.
Step 3: Manual backup for anything specific you still need.
If you're not using a desktop agent, or if particular content wasn't grabbed:
Original videos: Download manually from each project page.
Transcripts: Download as VTT or SRT from your project, or copy the text directly.
Video clips: Download from the Clips Manager.
Generated content: Copy text from your content cards.
AI images: Right-click and save.
Custom prompts: Open each card and copy the prompts individually.
Any other text: Open the project, press Cmd+A (Mac) or Ctrl+A (Windows), and paste into a Google Doc or Notion page. Clean it up afterward with an AI tool if needed.
We may not have everything fully shut down until the morning of May 9, but please don't count on extra time. If something is critical, save it tonight.
The Basics
Why is Alphana shutting down?
We've been finding strong traction with Visuals, and maintaining two platforms split our small team's engineering and support work in ways that meant neither got our best effort. We made the strategic decision to consolidate into Visuals.
What exactly is Visuals?
Visuals is an AI-native creative engine. You can generate AI images with full prompt control, create AI videos using multiple models (Google Veo, Runway Gen-4, Luma), build music videos and lyric videos from scratch, and edit video with a full editor and stock library. A workflow editor is launching in the coming weeks that adds multi-step generation pipelines and text generation.
Is Visuals only for music?
Visuals is primarily built around music workflows, but the creative tools work for any kind of content. The workflow editor in particular will be useful for any content workflow.
Is there another way to get my questions answered?
Yes. We're running customer-only live sessions throughout the transition with walkthroughs, workflow editor previews, and open Q&A. Watch your email for invitations and replays.
For AppSumo Lifetime Customers
I bought an AppSumo lifetime deal. What happens to it?
Your lifetime status is being carried forward to Visuals as permanent ongoing access. You will receive recurring monthly Visuals credits forever, scaled to the tier you purchased. No subscription required, ever.
How many monthly credits will I get?
Based on your original AppSumo tier:
Tier 1: 100 Visuals credits every month, forever
Tier 2: 200 Visuals credits every month, forever
Tier 3: 350 Visuals credits every month, forever
Tier 4: 700 Visuals credits every month, forever
What do those credits actually get me?
On Visuals, AI images start at 1 credit each and AI video clips start around 18 credits. So for example, 200 credits per month (Tier 2) roughly translates to 200 AI images, 11 AI video clips, or any mix of those. Higher quality image and video models cost more credits per generation.
Why aren't the credit numbers similar to what I had on Alphana?
Visuals credits power fundamentally different operations. Alphana credits mostly powered transcription, text generation, and video clipping. Visuals credits power AI image and video generation, which have significantly higher per-operation costs. Credits don't map one-to-one between the two platforms.
Is this really lifetime, or does it expire?
It's permanent. Your account stays active and your monthly credits continue for as long as Visuals exists as a platform.
What about my monthly video upload capacity from Alphana?
On Visuals, we've consolidated everything into a single credit pool. There's no separate hour cap. Your monthly credits cover uploads, processing, generation, edits, and exports, and you decide how to allocate them.
How do I claim my lifetime status on Visuals?
Your lifetime status is already active. As of May 8, 2026, monthly credits at your tier have been applied to your Visuals account, and confirmation emails went out the same day.
If you haven't signed up yet, head to visuals.fm and create your account using the same email address you used on Alphana. Your credits and lifetime access will be there the moment you log in.
If you signed up before May 8 and didn't see credits in your account, they've now been added. Log in again to see them. They reset every month from this date forward.
If you don't see credits after logging in, the most likely reason is that the email on your Visuals account doesn't exactly match the email on your Alphana account. Message us through in-app support if you need help.
You have until July 8, 2026 to claim your lifetime access on Visuals.
How many credits should I see in my Visuals account?
When you first sign up, you'll see your monthly tier credits plus a one-time 100-credit signup bonus. So:
Tier 1: 100 monthly + 100 bonus = 200 credits at first login
Tier 2: 200 monthly + 100 bonus = 300 credits at first login
Tier 3: 350 monthly + 100 bonus = 450 credits at first login
Tier 4: 700 monthly + 100 bonus = 800 credits at first login
The signup bonus is one-time. From the second month onward, you'll just see your monthly tier credits resetting at the start of each cycle.
If the credit count in your account is significantly different from these numbers, message us through in-app support and we'll take a look.
Do I use my Alphana password to sign in to Visuals?
No. Visuals is a separate platform with its own accounts, so your Alphana password doesn't carry over. When you go to visuals.fm, click sign up (not sign in) and create a new account using the same email address you used on Alphana. You'll set a new password during signup. Once you're in, your lifetime access and monthly credits will already be applied.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are governed by AppSumo's policy. We don't have the ability to issue refunds directly. To check your eligibility, please contact AppSumo support.
Can I buy more credits if I want more capacity?
Yes. Credit packs and plan upgrades are available if you want more capacity than your monthly allocation provides, but none of them are required. Your core lifetime benefits don't require any payment, ever.
Is this the same as what free users get on Visuals?
No, your lifetime benefits are significantly more than the free tier. Free users get 100 credits one time only, with watermarks, 720p output, and no commercial rights. Your lifetime status gives you recurring monthly credits every month forever (scaled to your tier), 1080p output, no watermarks, full commercial rights, and permanent account access without ever needing to subscribe. Over a year, even Tier 1 customers get 1,200 credits at full quality versus 100 watermarked credits on the free plan.
Why do I see an Upgrade button if I have lifetime access?
The Upgrade button still appears because Visuals also has paid plans and credit packs available. You do not need to upgrade to keep your lifetime access. The only reason to upgrade would be if you need Pro features or more credits than your monthly lifetime credits provide.
Your lifetime access is mapped to the Creator plan on Visuals, similar to how Alphana lifetime accounts were mapped to the Starter plan. This is the level your monthly credits and feature access are tied to permanently.
For a limited time, we've opened up Pro features to everyone (lifetime customers and free users alike) so people can try more of the platform during the transition. Those Pro features will be restricted again after 60 days, but your lifetime Creator-level access and monthly credits will continue without any change.
If you want to keep Pro features after the 60 days, you can upgrade. Otherwise, your account stays on Creator with full lifetime benefits.
Can I transfer my lifetime license to someone else?
Lifetime licenses are issued to the individual or business that originally purchased them, and they're tied to that account. We don't allow general transfers between users.
We make limited exceptions for legitimate cases like the original purchaser passing away or a business being acquired or sold. If you're in that situation, message us through in-app support with documentation (proof of inheritance, business sale agreement, etc.) and we'll work with you on a case-by-case basis.
Can I sell my lifetime license to someone else?
No. Lifetime licenses cannot be resold, transferred for payment, or otherwise listed on secondary markets (including but not limited to Reddit, Facebook groups, lifetime deal marketplaces, or any other platform).
Selling or attempting to sell your account violates the terms you agreed to when you purchased through AppSumo, as well as our terms of service. If we detect that an account has been sold or transferred to another person or business, the account will be permanently banned and the lifetime status revoked, with no refund or restoration. This applies whether the sale happened recently or years ago.
We monitor for unusual account activity, including login patterns, changes in usage behavior, IP geography shifts, and listings on known secondary marketplaces.
What's the workflow editor?
The workflow editor lets you chain prompts together, build multi-step generation flows, and run custom pipelines. You'll be able to create workflows for images, video scenes, full music videos, and text generation. Paste a transcript in, hit run, and in one pass it generates a blog post, LinkedIn post, podcast description, images, and short clips (coming soon) — the long-video-to-shorts workflow you liked about Alphana, rebuilt here. It's the closest thing to what made Alphana useful, rebuilt for everything Visuals can do. Alphana lifetime customers get early access before the public launch, with invites going out in the coming weeks.
For Stripe Monthly or Annual Subscribers
I'm a paying Stripe subscriber on Alphana. Can I move my subscription to Visuals?
Yes — and we recommend it. Message us through the in-app support chat and we'll work with you to transfer your subscription over to a comparable Visuals plan. We'll add a free month on top, and you can cancel anytime.
What happens if I don't transfer?
Alphana will shut down on May 9, 2026. You'll need to cancel your Alphana subscription manually through your account settings before that date to avoid further charges — it won't auto-cancel on its own.
Do I get anything on Visuals if I don't transfer?
Yes. As a thank you for being an active paying customer, we'll give you one free month on Visuals. We'll send you a coupon code by email that you can apply when you sign up.
How do I claim my free month on Visuals?
We'll send you a coupon code by email that you can apply when you sign up on Visuals at visuals.fm using the same email address as your Alphana subscription. The coupon has an expiration date included in the email.
Will I have access to Pro features on Visuals?
For a limited time, we've opened up Pro features to everyone (transferring subscribers, lifetime customers, and free users alike) so people can try more of the platform during the transition. Pro features will be available for 60 days, after which they'll be restricted to paid Pro plans again.
If you transferred your Alphana subscription, you'll keep your transferred plan with its full feature set after the 60 days. If you want to keep Pro features specifically, you can upgrade your plan at any time.
What if my subscription renews between now and May 9?
Cancel it as soon as you can through your Alphana account settings, or message us in the in-app support chat to transfer it to Visuals. If you're accidentally charged for a renewal after the shutdown announcement, message us through in-app support and we'll work with you on a refund.
For One-Time Credit Pack Purchasers
I bought one-time credit packs on Alphana. What happens to my remaining credits?
Your unused Alphana credit pack purchases will be migrated to Visuals at a conversion ratio proportionate to what you originally paid. The final conversion ratio will be communicated in the coming weeks.
How do I get my converted credits?
Message us through the in-app support chat with a screenshot of your remaining Alphana credit balance and the email address on your account. Your converted credits will be manually added to your Visuals account. Use the same email address on Visuals as you have on Alphana.
Why isn't it a straight one-to-one conversion?
A single AI video generation on Visuals costs us roughly what dozens of Alphana operations cost. The credits simply don't buy the same things on each platform, so a proportional conversion is the only way to carry the value forward sustainably.
For Free Users
I was a free user on Alphana. Do I get anything on Visuals?
You're welcome to sign up for Visuals for free at visuals.fm. You'll receive 100 starter credits (one-time) to explore the platform. The free tier includes 720p output with a watermark and no commercial rights.
Can I use Visuals without a subscription beyond the 100 free credits?
No. Aside from the 100 one-time starter credits, you'll need to upgrade to a paid plan to continue using Visuals. See visuals.fm/pricing for plan options.
Data, Access, and Account Questions
What happens to my Alphana data after May 9?
All Alphana content will be permanently deleted after the shutdown. If you want to keep any content, transcripts, clips, or generated files from Alphana, download them before May 9, 2026. We won't be able to recover anything after that date.
Can I move my Alphana projects, cards, or templates to Visuals?
We're planning to migrate your Cards and Templates from Alphana to Visuals. Some of them may function slightly differently on Visuals and some settings may not carry over, which is why we highly recommend backing up anything you want to keep. Actual content you generated in Alphana (text, images, or short clips) will not be migrated and should be downloaded before May 9, 2026.
Will my saved work on Visuals stay in my account forever?
Your account remains active permanently (for lifetime customers) or as long as your subscription is active (for paying subscribers). Standard file retention policies apply to generated content. If we ever need to clean up files due to long inactivity, we'll notify you well in advance.
Can I keep using Alphana after May 9?
No. Alphana will be fully shut down on May 9, 2026. All customers will need to transition to Visuals or another platform by that date.
What's the fastest way to back up my Alphana content?
The fastest method we've tested is using a desktop AI agent. We had the best results with Codex (OpenAI's desktop agent), which was able to access Alphana's API directly through the browser session and download text content from 10 projects into Markdown files in about 10 minutes.
Here's the workflow:
Open Codex (or another desktop agent that can control your browser).
Log in to Alphana in Chrome and keep the tab open.
In Codex, send a prompt like: "Can you help me back up all my projects in Alphana? I need all the content saved as MD files on my computer. If there are videos, grab the video URLs from the project pages and download them into a folder."
Approve the permissions Codex asks for as it works (it will request access to your browser and to download files).
Let it run, approving each step as needed until it finishes.
The agent will handle text content, transcripts, prompts, and video URLs. You may need to download larger video files manually after the agent identifies them.
If you're not using a desktop agent, the manual approach is:
Videos and clips first. Manually download anything important from your projects and the Clips Manager.
Text content using a shortcut. Open each project, click anywhere on the page, press Cmd+A (Mac) or Ctrl+A (Windows), then copy and paste into a Google Doc or Notion page. It won't be perfectly formatted, but it preserves the content. You can clean it up after with ChatGPT or another AI tool.
Card prompts last. Copy them out individually if you've built custom prompts you want to keep.
We may not have everything fully shut down until the morning of May 9, but please don't count on extra time. If something is critical, save it tonight.
Specific Use Cases and Feature Questions
I used Alphana to upload short videos and generate summaries, YouTube hashtags, SEO tags, and blog posts. Will I still have access to those features on Visuals?
Yes, text content generation is coming. The workflow editor launching in the coming weeks will include text generation for blog posts, social content, SEO tags, and more. In the coming months, we'll also be adding the ability to generate text content directly from uploaded video, similar to what you used on Alphana. In the meantime, once the workflow editor launches you can paste a transcript or notes and generate the same kinds of text outputs from that.
I want to take a long-form video and create several short-form videos from it. Can Visuals do that?
Yes, automatic short clip generation from long-form video is coming. Short clips are typically 30-60 seconds, and when this feature launches you'll be able to extract any length from your long-form videos. We're planning to add this capability in the coming months as part of the workflow editor. Today, you can already upload your long-form video to the Visuals video editor and cut it down manually to create shorter clips.
How long will each AI video clip be?
AI-generated video clips can range from 4 to 10 seconds long, starting at 18 credits per clip. Cost scales up depending on the AI model, duration, and quality you choose. For longer content, the workflow editor will let you chain multiple clips together into longer scenes once it launches.
Can I add text overlays, image overlays, or captions to videos on Visuals?
Yes. Visuals includes a full video editor with caption styles, a stock image and video library, and the ability to layer elements onto your videos. You can use this with AI-generated videos, uploaded videos, or any combination.
Can I upload my own long-form videos to Visuals?
Yes. You can upload videos to use in the Visuals video editor, including cutting them down manually into shorter clips today. Uploaded videos are automatically analyzed for audio and visual content, which enables additional creative features. Processing uses credits from your monthly allocation.
Does Visuals support BYOK (bring your own API keys) or integrations with other services?
BYOK isn't something we currently have plans to support. It's something we may evaluate over time as we grow the platform, but it's not on our current roadmap.
Does Visuals function the same way as Alphana?
No. Alphana was a video repurposing tool focused on turning source videos into clips, transcripts, and text content. Visuals is a creative generation engine focused on creating new visuals from scratch using AI, primarily built around music workflows.
The core workflows are different today, but over the coming months we're adding capabilities like automatic short clip generation from long-form video and text content generation from uploads, which will bring back much of what made Alphana useful.
Getting Help
I have a question that isn't answered here.
Message us through the in-app support chat on our site. We're reading and responding to messages personally during this transition.
I want to give feedback on the transition or the new Visuals platform.
